Winner to get SUV at Abuja 2019 CDS half marathon
Winner in this year’s Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) half marathon will go home with a sports utility vehicle (SUV), the organisers have disclosed.
The competition, which the organisers believe will promote togetherness and ensure physical fitness amongst the Armed Forces and Security Agencies, will hold on June 15. The logo for the championship was unveiled at the weekend at the CDS Headquarters, Abuja.
The 21.5 kilometer road race, which is expected to start at Dei-Dei and end at the Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment, has as its theme ‘Together We Are,’ signifying the unity of purpose amongst the security agencies.
While unveiling the official logo, the Chief of Defense Staff, General GA Olanisakin, who conceived the idea of the half marathon three years ago, said the primary objective of the exercise was to further strengthen the existing relationship between the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and other security agencies in order to collectively confront the common enemy, especially with the upsurge of insecurity in the country.
“As you all know, sports is one of the means of ensuring physical fitness and promoting togetherness. It is my believe that sports would foster cooperation and synergy which would in turn enhance our capacity to combat the myriad of security challenges facing our dear nation at this time,” declared General Olanisakin, who was represented by Air Vice Marshall Balogun.
General Olanisakin said the half marathon was one of the tools he was leveraging on to further enhance the existing relationship amongst the members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies.
Aside the personnel of the Nigerian Armed, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Prison Service (NPS) and Nigeria Fire Service (NFS) are expected to participate in the half marathon.
Others are Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO).
