The benefits of adoration (cont)
What Was Moses‘ Response To God’s Revelation?
“AND Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped,” (Ex 34:8).
Adoring Contemplation Leads To Growing In Holiness
Adoring contemplation is ‘the secret of the saints: they grew in holiness as they grew in the steadiness and fixity of their gazing. It is glorifying and rewarding to set out for God rather than for ethical perfection. Adoration has the power to ‘disinfect us from egoism.’
When we adore God and put Him at the centre and see that all worth is in Him then everything else, including the self, is removed to the circumference. The best way to become holy is not only to set about eliminating from your life all the things you know to be unholy because it is possible to cut off the branches and still leave the trunk intact. Gazing in love on God deals with the trunk. The more we focus on Him, the more His love and power penetrates to the core of our personality. We gaze; he invades. Holiness is not something achieved, but something that is received.
Note carefully!
Only a believer, who pursues peace and is holy can truly “see the Lord” during the process of adoration. But without holiness “no man will see God.”
“Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord,” (Heb 12:14).
“Pursue peace with all men, and holiness.” Holiness is being separated from sin and being set apart for God; it is to be close to God, to be like Him, and to seek His presence, righteousness and fellowship with all our hearts.
Above all things, holiness is God’s priority for His followers (Eph 4:21-24).
1•Holiness was God’s purpose for His people when He planned their salvation in Christ (Eph 1:4).
2• Holiness was Christ’s purpose for His people when He came to this earth (Mat 1:21; 1 Cor 1:2,30).
3• Holiness was Christ’s purpose for His people when He gave Himself up for them on the cross (Eph 5:25-27).
4• Holiness is God’s purpose in making us a new creation and in giving us the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:2-15; Gal 5:16-25; Eph 2:10).
5• Without holiness no one can be useful to God (2 Tim 2:20-21).
6 • Without holiness there is no nearness to or fellowship with God (Ps 15:1-2).
7• Without holiness no one will see the Lord (v.14; Mat 5:8).
Holiness is the purpose of sanctification (1 Pet 1:2). Sanctification (Gkhagiasmos) means to make holy, to consecrate, to separate from the world, and to be set apart from sin so that we may have intimate fellowship with God and serve Him gladly. Holiness is the purpose of spiritual Separation for Believers (2 Cor 6:17-18).
