Courage overtakes fear

Fist signifying courage

“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night and lo, the Angel of the Lord came upon them and the glory of the Lord shone around them and they were so afraid and the Angel said unto them fear not for behold, I bring you Good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people.

For unto you is Born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is church Christ the Lord,” Luke 2: 8-11.

The man Jesus Christ of Nazareth is not just a name, neither is He just a man – from conception to birth, His early life and earthly ministry was surrounded with mysteries, which so many schools of thought has tried to discredit to no avail.

Personality And His Ministry, Isaiah 9:6ff assures that our Lord Jesus is the most valuable Precious Gift from God.

He is a glorious gift, the gift of all Gifts. John 3:16 – God was compelled by love to give us a life, so that we might give back our lives to him. He gave us His Son, so that we in turn might become His sons and Daughters.

Another mystery surrounding Jesus is Messianic names, such as marvellous, wonderful meaning “Beyond understanding.”

He who moves in mysterious ways His wonders to perform, Who plants His footstep on the sea, and rides upon the storm. Of all the self-acclaimed messiahs, none has been able to equal that wonderful man of Calvary called Jesus (Judges 13:18) If you believe in Him, you too can be like Him, incomprehensible, unstoppable and indestructible.

In John 3:8, Jesus likened anyone born again and filled in the Holy Spirit as wonderful- “The wind blows wherever it pleases, you hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the spirit.” Child of God, you are wonderful just as your Master is wonderful.

Jesus is Our Counsellor. He became our wisdom from God 1 Corinthians 1:30. He is our King, Who has final say over all matters Psalm 20:4. In Matthew 28:18 He declared:

“All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me.” He came to conquer our weaknesses. He conquered sickness, sin, sorrow and death. To Him alone belongs all the authority. He alone has the power to relinquish this to whomever He will.

Hence in John 1:12 “But as many as receive him to them gave power to become the sons of God, even to those that believe in his name.”

Hence the topic of our message courage overtakes fear. The shepherd in the wilderness keeping their flocks, on seeing the Angels were perplexed, troubled and terrified.

Thank you Jesus for not making this Good News exclusive reserve of the elites, but down to the rank and files- a message for a messed up age, a message of hope to a world that is living in fear, of unknown tomorrow; a message to a world bedevilled with economic hardship, insecurity of life and property, sexual sin-even the sin of sodomy, a message to the world where the rich leverage on the blood of the poor.

I can hear the voice of the Commander of the universe saying to you and me, ‘Fear not, for behold I bring you Good Tidings of Great Joy, which shall be to all people. For unto us a child is born this day a Saviour, Who is Christ the Lord.”

Christ is the message for this generation, sent from God to restore man from this fallen deplorable state. He is our deliverer, our help in times of need. You have heard it all. This Jesus is the Prince of Peace and all who believes in Him will have peace with God.

Do you have peace with God? Just invite Jesus into your life today and you will have peace, the peace that conquers sin, fear, and sorrow will be yours in Jesus name.
