Bishop of the Diocese of Evo, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rivers State, the Rt. Rev. Innocent Uchechukwu Ordu, has charged Christians, especially the diocesans to rededicate themselves to the service of God and humanity.

Rev. Ordu said this at the Diocesan Rededication Service, which held at the All Saints Cathedral, Rumuokwurusi, Port Harcourt.

He also led the Diocese to pray for a peaceful and credible general election so that true leaders would emerge from it.

“This rededication is very important for God to grant us new energy, grace, power and authority to serve him and humanity faithfully this year 2023. Besides, we must pray earnestly for the 2023 general election so that God will help us to get it right this time around in installing the right leaders at all levels of our polity,” he said.

Speaking on the theme: “Lifting Up The Name Of Jesus, “the Bishop stressed the need for all to continually lift Jesus’ name until all persons are drawn to Him.

He advised Christian faithful against voting for a joint ticket that does not respect the religious diversity of the nation at the presidential election.

“A Muslim/Muslim ticket particularly at the national level is a huge threat to the survival of Christian faith in the country. And no Christian should fall for it, no matter how deeply attached he/she may be to such an offending political party,” he said.

In his sermon, the guest preacher, Rev. Canon Timothy Olanade charged all Christians to continue to lift the name of Jesus Christ.

Rev. Olanade who is of the Diocese of Jos noted that the appellations of Jesus include the master key to every situation, the hiding place of all believers, the highest defence from danger, among others.

In his text taken from John 12: 20-32, he stated that some of the conditions for proclaiming Jesus’ name are during the rededication of oneself or group to authentic service and sacrifice, and the rededication to continuous glorification of Jesus’ name.

The service witnessed the rededication of all arms, groups and units of the diocese, as well as the clergy and their wives.

Other highlights included the signing of the Diocese of Evo Constitution, prayers for Venerable Ikechukwu Anene who just retired from the services of the diocese, awards of scholarship to 28 indigent students in different tertiary institutions by the Diocesan Council of Knights, and the presentation of certificates to graduates of the Diocesan ICT Centre.
