“The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all” (Pro 22:2).
It is not God that made them poor, but God created them. Thank God you have education; thank God you are brilliant, thank God for all the opportunities of your life. God also created the others who are less opportune. Apostle Peter in his writings in the Bible admonished us thus:
“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud and giveth grace to the humble; humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time” (1Peter 5:5,6).
God resists the proud. That is actually what the Bible says we should do to the devil. “Resist the devil” (Jas 4:7). Whatever will make God to resist you; you must run away from it. Pride makes you resemble the devil. It was actually pride that evicted the devil from Heaven. You cannot truly know God and not be humble. If God resists the proud then people will resist you if you are proud. Always understand that you are what you are by the Grace of God (1Cor 15:10) There is nothing you have that you have not received (1Cor 4:7). We are all beneficiaries of God’s Grace and mercies.
No matter what you have, and no matter who you are, you must stop looking down on others. Remember, no matter whom you are, you cannot be married to yourself, you still need somebody. The humble are very quick to give God the glory because they know they cannot achieve anything without God. The humble are not easily offended and they are quick to forgive.
The Humble easily accept their faults and mistakes; they also find it so easy to apologise. They follow counsel particularly the counsel of their pastors. The humble takes correction and loves to learn and to ask questions. The humble knows that no one knows everything.
It is time to get rid of pride, before it gets rid of you; pride will limit you, it will hinder you, it will perpetuate delay in your life. Pride is a destroyer. Pride will cause delay in any life. Pride is of the devil.
“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall” (Pro 16:18). Anyone who is proud is on the way to destruction.
When you are corrected and pride makes you to be adamant and incorrigible, the end result will be destruction. Everyone tries to avoid a proud person because they are aware that the proud are very difficult to teach or correct. They are not teachable because they assume that they already know it all.
“He that is being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy” (Pro 29:1). It is pride that makes people to hate corrections.
It is wisdom to learn from others, it is wisdom to take corrections. You cannot afford to make all the mistakes others had made, it is better to learn from the mistakes of others. Be humble. A proud person only learns from his or her own mistakes, that is nothing but foolishness.
In conclusion, we must learn to humble ourselves, if we must overcome marital delay. We must become teachable; accept corrections with joy and gratitude. We must learn to honour and respect others, no matter how high or lifted we become in life. We must always remember that we are who we are and where we are only by the Grace of God. You may be ahead today only God knows who will be ahead tomorrow.
Only God knows the future. We must always realise that no condition is permanent. I usually tell people jokingly that nothing is permanent, even when they call you a Permanent Secretary. Always remember that someone used to occupy the position you are now and only God knows who will be there tomorrow. Beloved, it is wisdom to get rid of pride and with that you automatically get rid of delay.
