Adoration – Part 20

(2) Jesus’ question to Peter is the great question for all believers.

We must all have a personal heartfelt love for and devotion to Jesus (14:15; 16:27; Mat 10:37; Luke 7:47; 1 Cor 16:22; 2 Cor 5:14; Gal 5:6; Eph 6:24; Jas 1:12; 1 Pet 1:8; Rev 2:4).
Message To Church At Ephesus (Read Rev 2:1-7)

“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love,” (Rev 2:4).

“Left your first love.” This refers to the Ephesians’ first deep love and passion for Christ and His word (John 14:15, 21; 15:10).

• This warning teaches us that knowing correct doctrine, obeying some of the commands, and worshipping in the church are not enough. The church must have above all a heartfelt love for Jesus Christ and His word, (2Cor. 11:3; cf. Deut 10:12).

• Sincere love for Christ results in single-hearted devotion to Him, purity of life and a love of the truth (2Cor. 11:3; see 2Chr 30:6; Mat 22-37, 39; John 21:15).
(4.3) Jesus Promises The Holy Spirit (Read Jn 14:17-31)
“If you love Me,keep My commandments.16: And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever,” (Jn 14:15, 16).

Jesus was soon going to leave the disciples, but he would remain with them. How could this be? The Helper—the Spirit of God himself—would come after Jesus was gone to care for and guide the disciples. The regenerating power of the Spirit came on the disciples just before Jesus’ ascension (20:22), and the Spirit was poured out on all the believers at Pentecost (Acts 2), shortly after Jesus ascended to heaven. The Holy Spirit is the very presence of God within us, and all believers, helping us tolive as God wants and also building Christ’s church on earth. By faith we can appropriate the Spirit’s power each day.

(4.4) See the example of Jesus: Believers must imitate Jesus by always doing things that please the Father and by working in union with the Father

“And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him,” (Jn 8:29).

“I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me,” (Jn 5:30).

“For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me,” (Jn 6:38).

6:37, 38, Jesus did not work independently of God the Father, but in union with Him. This should give us even more assurance of being welcomed into God’s presence and being protected by him. •
