Buried, but alive – Part 3

John Okene

When calamity comes upon a man, it can leave his whole life in a total mess and frustration. In Job 1:13-20, we see a man, who experienced an unusual type of calamity. In one day, Job lost everything he had ever owned. News came to him that his enemies have killed all his servants, while they were working in the field. While he was still trying to cope with that information another message came that all his animals had been taken away.

Finally, he was told that his 10 sons and daughters had died in the same day. The news of these calamities was too much for him to comprehend. This is the state of some people in life today. The enemy has buried them in the grave of calamity, so, they fall from one problem to another and they cannot come out of any until they are suffocated and die of high blood pressure. Thank God for Job’s strong faith in God; he held on to God and worshipped Him until God delivered him and blessed him more than his beginning. Never let your problem get you down. I pray for you, when the enemy comes upon you like a flood, may God lift you up in Jesus’ name (Isaiah 59:19).

A man can also be buried in the grave of addiction. Such a victim is seen to struggle to break out of a particular habit, but fails. It could be drugs, alcohol, pornography, lies, masturbation, adultery and so on. They struggle everyday, but find themselves sinking deeper in that grave until it leads to an untimely death. A young man cried to me some time ago that he could not stop eating the hairs on his head. It was a very strange habit and he said he was sick of life and felt like killing himself. There are so many persons like that today, anywhere they turn to they see darkness all over and nothing is working out well in their lives. They are sick spiritually, financially, bodily, and psychologically. They begin to be choke under the addiction until death comes upon them. This is the manifestation of the grave of addiction. In Mark 5:5, the mad man of Gadara could not stop cutting himself with stones in spite of the pains and trauma it brought to him. Whatever addiction you are struggling with today, may God set you free and drag you out of the grave in Jesus’ name.

The last grave we shall consider is the grave of untimely death. Psa. 49:15 tells us that there is a power of the grave and it can hold a man captive. Such persons begin to perceive the smell of corpses all around them. They may also be having dreams of eating and relating with their dead friends and relatives. They dream of coffins or being in a funeral procession. Sometimes they see skeleton or dream of being covered with a black cloth. If you experience any of these, you must pray seriously against death. A young man dreamt that he was in a burial ceremony and when he stretched forth to see who was in the coffin, he discovered that it was his body lying-in-state and then he woke up. His wife told him that they should meet their pastor for prayers, but he discarded the idea and said the dream was just one of the usual strange dreams. That morning he set out for business as usual and on his way, he had a strange headache. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but before he could get adequate attention, he had given up the ghost. That was the end of the man in his mid-30s.
