The Vicar of Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Ishagatedo, Isolo, Lagos, Venerable Oluwaseun Bolatito Dokunmu has urged Christians including Nigerians to have faith in God’s ability to help them subdue the challenges currently facing the country.

The cleric, who is also the Archdeacon and Administrator of Isolo Archdeaconry, disclosed this, while speaking at a three-day crusade, tagged: “The Most High God,” held at the church premises, said it was time Nigerians got close to God regardless of the prevailing circumstances in the country.

He said: “The programme is to show people that the Most High is above every situation and has the final authority. He is greater than the greatest and higher than the highest. He is the Almighty. All things are under his control, whatever you are passing through now, everything is under God’s control and he is in charge. The theme of the programme is coming up in a time when people are confused, discouraged, down amidst the economic crisis.”

Speaking on state of the nation, Dokunmu urged Nigerians to be hopeful, even as he admonished those in positions of authority to be committed to serving the people without favouritism.

“People in positions of authority should be focused and solve the challenges that are hindering the development of the country. If they’re going to focus on how to solve the pain caused by an unstable electricity supply, they should face it. If it is the economy, they are going to fix, they should focus on it. If it is transportation they are going to do, they should do it well. If they are going to provide jobs, they should let it spread and share the slots among themselves in their various political parties.

He urged the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to unite the country, govern in the fear of God and carry out programmes that would impact the masses positively. Given the role some pastors played before the election, the Vicar stated that it was wrong for them to use the pulpit as a place to express political anger.

Dokunmu said: “Pastors must not be biased even though we are political beings. The pulpit is the conscience of the nation. The message of salvation and restoration should be focus on the pulpit. It’s not a place to take sides as pastors and ministers of the gospel, we must be fair to all and we must love all.

“The church should continue to pray and as we pray, we must take action. Actions in the sense that we must let the government know what is ideal.”

The invited guest minister and Vicar of Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church, Ipaja, Lagos, Venerable Blessing Ajayi said it is only God that could solve the problems confronting the country, and ask the people to put their trust in God.
