The Dean, Diocese of Awori Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Ogun State, the Venerable Nelson Adewole, has called on fathers, as they celebrate Fathers’ Day, to specifically stand up as fathers and leaders to perform their godly roles by training their children in the way of the Lord.
Dean of the Cathedral, who spoke at the Cathedral Church of Saint James, Ogun State, during the Trinity Sunday and Fathers’ Day with the topic: “The Godly Father,” to mark Fathers Day, urged fathers to bring uptheir children to be responsible and manly enough to love their spouses, so that, the gender-based violence that is rampant in the society will be a thing of the past.
Calling on spouses to live together in joy and unity, Adewole cited the example of how David, while on his dying bed counselled his son, Solomon to be a responsible man and to serve the Lord.
He said: “We challenge our fathers because today is Trinity Sunday, the day we celebrate the unity of Godhead — God the father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit — as the kind of life that Christians should live in love and unity.
According to him, God the Father manifested in the creation of the world, God the Sonredeemed the world, while God the Holy Spirit sustains the world and man till today, adding that God the Holy Spiritis in the church.
He enjoined families to be united, stressing that fathersshould be men enough to stand on their feet and provide for their families, care for their wives and perform their roles as heads and leaders of their homes.
Lamenting that many youths are into drugs, fraudulent practices and other vices, he charged parents to train their children, so that, they will not be jobless.
“Even when the collar jobs are not there, they will have other means of sustaining themselves and standing on their own. Parents are to come up and take their responsibilities by training their children and let them be well.
When families are balanced the nation will be properly ordered, crime rate will reduce, people will be responsible and our youths will be what God wants them to be. The youths should be our strength,” he added.
