The Diocesan Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Evo, Rivers State, Rt. Rev. Innocent Uchechukwu Ordu, JP, has urged members to follow their prayers with faith, action and be determined to say, “I shall accomplish great things, uncommon things this year.”

Speaking on the theme, “Through God, we shall do Valiantly” taken from Psalm 60:12; 2 Chronicles 32:8b; Hebrews 11:34, the Bishop emphasised that, “This year may bring its own troubles and calamities. Just be strong. Don’t panic. Don’t shake. Don’t be dismayed.”

The Bishop’s admonition was followed by a sermon delivered by a military cleric and Vicar of St. Jude’s Military Protestant Church, GRA, Port Harcourt, Rev. Canon (Lt) Moses Lucky. He told the congregation that for God to help anyone to do mighty things this year, the person must be courageous and put their trust in God and not in man.

Various groups in the church were called to the altar to be re-dedicated for greater service to God. They included the Clergy, Knights, Lay Readers, Christian Men’s Fellowship, women groups, the choir and band, youths and children, among others.

The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of cheques being bursary awards given to 31 undergraduates by the Diocese of Evo Council of Knights.

The Council of Knights also gave awards to eight persons that contributed the most towards its charity in 2020. The platinum award went to Sir and Lady Chijioke Tasie, who donated N1m.

The Diocesan Empowerment Board also announced names of about 51 persons that have been screened to take part in various empowerment skill acquisition programmes to be sponsored by the Diocese.

They include catering, fashion designing, hairdressing, laundry services, auto mechanic, baking and barbing. The recipients commended the Diocese and Knights for the honour.

Certificates were also given to 15 graduates, who had completed their Empowerment training at the Diocesan ICT Centre.
