God is good, indeed!

Ernest Onuoha

Incontestable Psalm 124 is one of the four Psalms of ascent attributed to David as their author. In this Psalm, it dawned on David that God was responsible for his deliverance from the situation he found himself. The imagery of flood was used to depict that deliverance.

The flood in question was not ordinary but damaging and could be compared to Tsunami. Therefore, David uses the refrain in his deliverance repeatedly to say: “if the Lord had not been on our side.”

Tiny the word: “if” may be, yet, it had great implications in the life of David and to those dependent on God for deliverance. Although surrounded by the flood and enemies, there seem to be no hope and way of escape, but God responded by providing the needed deliverance.

Therefore, it is against this backdrop that we sincerely rejoice with the Bishop of Warri Diocese, Rt. Rev. Christian Esezi Ide- for God’s goodness unto him, as he was delivered from accident that nearly claimed his life recently at Kaaba Junction on Okene-Lokoja Expressway.

Bishop Ide had gone to Abuja in response to a peace meeting called by the Primate of All Nigeria, Most Rev. Nicholas D. Okoh over the troubled Diocese of Sapele, Delta State.

To God’s glory, the meeting ended well and the Bishop decided to travel back the next day. It is true he had premonition about the journey that fateful day, but he handed the journey over to God with great assurance that: ”the Lord shall protect our going out and coming in”, (Psalm 121:8).

However, the devil had a contrary plan because he is always seeking whom to devour, (1 Peter 5:8). Yes, he caused an accident with the car the Bishop and his driver were travelling with.

The car was badly damaged in the process. Nevertheless, we thank God for the esprit de corps exhibited by the Archbishop and Bishop of Lokoja Diocese, Most Rev Emmanuel Egbunu, who quickly came to the scene of the accident, took the Bishop and his driver to a nearby hospital and there they were certified injury-free by the doctor on duty.

Praise thy Lord! The Psalmist says: “how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell in unity”, (Psalm 133:1) and this was ably exhibited by Most Rev Emmanuel Egbunu. I hope some men of God are learning some lessons from this.

Therefore, in appreciation to God for this great deliverance and escape from sudden death, Bishop Ide has slated December 30, 2017 for a thanksgiving service at his Cathedral St. Andrew’s Warri in order to pay his vows in the presence of God’s people (Psalm 116:18).

Expectedly, this thanksgiving service shall be led by the Archbishop of the province and the Bishop of Esan Diocese, Most Reverend Friday Imaekhai and other brother Bishops within and outside the Province together with Christian faithful, as they join to fulfil the ageless Biblical injunction “rejoice with those who rejoice”, (Romans 12:15a).

Bishop Ide is full of thanks to God and to all who prayed for God’s travelling mercies on that fateful day. Indeed, there were pockets of revelations that showed that if not God the devil could have celebrated over his servant. Yet, the Word of God insists: “touch not mine anointed ones and do my prophets no harm”, (Psalm 105:15). What a marvellous work He had done. Certainly, God is Good, Indeed!

People of God, no matter what we are going through, God’s goodness to us His children is eternal. I want to announce to all believers, we will finish strong by the grace of God’.

Notice, the God of David and Bishop Ide, are here to see us through, even as we prepare to cross over to a New Year. It is well with our soul! Let us encourage one another thus: “but in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. The servants of the Lord enjoy these benefits; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!” (Isaiah 54:17). Claim it to the glory of God. Cheers!
