The New Year comes with the euphoria of newness, the euphoria of a new season, and usually a time of new resolutions.

The New Year comes with the euphoria of newness, the euphoria of a new season, and usually a time of new resolutions. The New Year is also a time of decision making, stocktaking and strategising for the future. It is a time of renewal when we seek God for the renewal of our vision and strength. It is also a time of seeking God to know his plans and purposes for us.

The desire to know God’s plans for 2022 is paramount to most believers. Only the Holy Spirit knows the future. The full details about 2022 lie in God’s hands. It can only be unravelled to us by the Holy Spirit. The spirit searches the deep things of God and reveals them to us. As we walk in step with Jesus, he will make plain the plans of God to us.

“But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man the things God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things; yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows are the things of man, except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even, so, no one knows the things of God except the spirit of God.” (I Corinthians 2:9-11 NKJV).

One of the ministries of the Holy Spirit is to teach us all things, which God wants us to know. “But the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (John 14:26 NKJV). Those who seek to know the Father’s will are taught by his Spirit.

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” (Deuteronomy 29:29 NKJV).

The Holy Spirit also helps us to pray. He teaches us how to pray and helps us to know the will of the Father.

“Likewise the spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the spirit himself makes intercession for us with groaning, which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Romans 8:26-27 NKJV).

To understand what God has for us in 2022, we must listen attentively to what the Holy Spirit says. Jesus said: “And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.” (John 10:4 NKJV).

“I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and I am known by My own.” (John 10:14 NKJV

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10:27 NKJV).

We must also be willing to obey Jesus and run with whatever information God reveals to us. It is one thing to know the will of God and another thing to obey it or put into practice what he has revealed to us. Obedience to his revealed counsel leads to greater success.

New Year resolutions make no sense if they are not followed through with actions. The ability to act on our resolutions is what will make the New Year meaningful. Contact:pastoracukachi@gmail.com
