Leaning into your difference

Each of us are uniquely blessed by God and deployed to the world to function in our areas of calling or gifting. You need to discover and express your uniqueness. In all of creation, there has never been anyone like you. God has given you amazing gifts that are needed for such a time as this. Don’t be so enamoured with the gift of someone else that you fail to discover, develop and express your own gifting with diligence, because it is your gift that will shift you from where you are into the purpose God has predestined for you. According to Psalm 139, He created us very carefully and for a specific purpose. God does not make mistakes, and all His works are wonderful. That means you are wonderful! (Psalm 139:14).

God Has blessed you with special ability different from another, so that, you will rule your world with that special gifting. The Psalmist says in 139:14: “I will praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Your difference is your advantage. One African Proverbs says, “the Chameleon does not compete with the lion, but survive by his own gift.” It is expedient that you find yourself and value what you carry. God did not clone you; He customised you. In a world that pressures everyone to fit in, it is easy to feel like being different is a disadvantage. What makes you different is what makes you valuable. God created us different. Our advantage is in our differences. God Has set every part in the body as it had pleased Him. In other words, you are designed uniquely to fit a purpose no one else can fulfill.

Do not try to be someone else, be yourself. Do not be a photocopy of another person, be original. When you think about David, he was not trained like the soldiers; he did not go to any military academy; he was not even considered worthy to fight; he was simply a shepherd boy/a musician, but his difference, which was the shepherd skill, which is a skill with the sling became his advantage against Goliath. If David had tried to fight like Saul, he would have failed; if he had tried to use the weapons of Saul, he would have been killed. His difference was his victory weapon.

A young man had a speech impediment, but was gifted at painting and instead of trying to outtalk others, he leaned into his difference and, today, he is a renowned visual artist whose paintings speak volumes without words and make millions around the world.

His difference became his signature advantage and that is why the Book of Proverbs says, the Chameleon does not compete with the lion. but he survives by his own gift. In other words, you thrive by maximising your uniqueness, not by imitation. Invest in your strength and stop wasting your time trying to amplify your weakness. John Mason said: ”You are born an original, do not die a copy. Celebrate what makes you different, your uniqueness is not a mistake, it is your master piece.”

Celebrate your uniqueness. Your difference is your divine advantage, shine your light boldly and win in your area of calling. You will shine by embracing your divine difference, your unique gifts will make a way for you, your originality will make room for you on the table of greatness, and you will stand out. Find out what makes your unique and amplify it.
