The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), Ogun State Chapter, has joined other Christians across the country to observe a three-day National Mourning declared by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for the release of the abducted school children in Oyo State.
Led by Pastor Seyifunmi Afolabi, members in the state converged at their various local councils for a coordinated prayer walk, interceding for the safe release of all kidnapped children, teachers and all others who are still held captive.
The prayer walk, with the theme: “Prayer Walk For Our Children And Nation,” brought together Christian youths, church leaders and concerned citizens to pray for divine intervention in the nation’s security challenges.
Participants carried banners and placards bearing messages that include, “Protect Our Children,” “Secure Our Schools,” “Support Our Communities,” and “Pray For Our Nation.” The gathering also served as a solemn moment to remember those who have lost their lives as a result of the ongoing tragedy.
Speaking on behalf of YOWICAN Ogun State chapter, Pastor Afolabi, decried the continued captivity of innocent school children, teachers and citizens, describing the situation as a national emergency that requires urgent action from all stakeholders.
According to the youth body, “every child deserves the safety of a classroom, every teacher deserves protection, while serving the nation, and every family deserves the peace of knowing that their loved ones are secure.”
YOWICAN also reaffirmed its support for the position of CAN National and called on government authorities, security agencies and all stakeholders to intensify efforts to rescue every child and teacher still in captivity.
The youth organisation emphasised that the nation must not become indifferent to the suffering of innocent children and educators, noting that the continued abduction of students poses a serious threat to the future of education and national development.
