The everlasting father
Memory Verse: Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen. — 1 Timothy 1:17.
Bible Passage: Isaiah 9:6
Introduction: The best of biological fathers are human and inherently weak and limited, regardless of their intension, passion, love and commitment. They will not be around forever. Many a biological father has had to helplessly watch his beloved child go through pain, trauma, confusion and stress. Some even wish they could take the place of the beloved child. Sometimes they watch their offspring pass on. Glory be to God the eternal Father, Who is never out of His depth or out of options. No situation is beyond Him.
Who Is A Father?
First and foremost, a father is the source of life, contributing one half of the life producing equation. Genesis 9: 23, Genesis 26: 3, Genesis 26: 15, 18 and 24, Genesis 27: 18,26, Genesis 46: 5, Psalm 103: 13, Matthew 3: 9, Luke 3: 8. We all need fathers or father figures. Earthly fathers trained and disciplined us in the only way they knew how and we ought to respect and honour them, but they fall short and may fail us from time to time. The influence of human nature is never completely eliminated in their discipline and correction. Some might do it to advance their personal pride and interest, Hebrew 12:9-10. We should never stop honouring them.
The Everlasting Father
“… you shall say to the children of Israel The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham …Isaac…and Jacob… sent me to you…this is my name forever… my memorial to all generations, Exodus 3:15.”
He is the Father of fathers in eternity past, present and future. Nothing is too hard for Him. He is our ever-present help in the time of trouble. He has our very best interest at heart all the time. He has made all round provision for all needs, John 3:16. He is not subject to any limitation, Isaiah 9:6, Mathew 1:21-23, John 3:36, John 10:10, Philippians 2:9, Hebrews 12:2, Matthew 28:18, Revelation 3:7, Matthew 16:19. He, indeed, changed places with us. He took all our sorrow and shame. He died so we can live, became poor so we can be rich and took all our diseases on Himself, for by His stripes we were healed.
Conclusion
John 3: 35-36. Would you not rather have Him as your Father? And live forever with Him in His kingdom? Job 22:21. He promised never to leave you or forsake you. Nothing will separate you from Him in the mighty name of Jesus.
