It will be a time of great suffering and dreadful persecution for all who remain faithful to God (Rev 12:17; 13:15). (8) It will be a time of God’s wrath and judgment upon the ungodly (1 Thes 5:1-11; Rev 6:16-17). (9) Jesus’ statement that those days will be shortened

(7) It will be a time of great suffering and dreadful persecution for all who remain faithful to God (Rev 12:17; 13:15). (8) It will be a time of God’s wrath and judgment upon the ungodly (1 Thes 5:1-11; Rev 6:16-17). (9) Jesus’ statement that those days will be shortened (Mat 24:22) must not be understood to imply that there will be any reduction of the predicted three-and-a-half years or 1,260 days. Rather, it seems to refer to the fact that the period is so awful that if it were not confined to a limited period of time, the whole human race would be destroyed. (10) The great tribulation will end with the coming of Jesus Christ in glory with His bride (Rev 19:7-8, 14) to bring deliverance to the faithful and judgment and destruction to the wicked (Ezek 20:34-38; Mat 24:29-31; Luke 19:11-27; Rev 19:11-21). (11) We must not confuse this coming at the end of the great tribulation with Jesus’ reference to His unexpected descent from heaven in Mat 24:42, 44. This coming refers to the rapture of believers occurring at a time different from that of Christ’s final return at the end of the tribulation. See article on The Rapture. (12) The major Scripture passage describing the whole seven-year tribulation is found in Rev 6-18.

The Tribulation: Highlights

Will begin after the restrainer is taken out of the way (2Thes 2:6-8)
Will begin after the secret power of lawlessness intensifies (2Thes 2:7-8)
Will begin after a great rebellion against the faith occurs (2Thes 2:3)
The antichrist (the man of lawlessness) will appear (Dan 9:26-27; 2Thes 2:3-10; Rev 13:1-18; 16:2; 17:9-18; 19:19-20)
Will begin with the opening of the seven seals (Rev 6:1)
A time of worldwide distress (Mt 24:21-22; Rev 6-19)
Will last for seven years (Dan 9:27)
