GOD does not work with multitude, rather He prefers and works with people who are ready to take up sacrificial responsibilities to do exploit for Him that will lead to the salvation of as many people as possible. To the people who work with God, it does not matter to them if taking up divine duties will cost them their earthly lives because they are aware that even if they die they will meet with our Lord Jesus Christ and the glory of their eternal life with the Lord will be greater than the life on earth. God, therefore, is looking for the people who are on His side to take up the challenge of preaching the gospel for the salvation of the perishing souls.
Moses threw this question: “Who is on the Lord’s side?” to join him in saving the lives of the Israelites who have gone into idolatry by worshipping the golden calf. While on Mount Sinai in the presence of God to receive the Ten Commandments, the people backslid. They moulded a golden calf and started worshipping it. Moses was disappointed seeing Aaron, the Priest and the entire congregation of Israel going contrary against God’s will by worshipping idol. He posed that question for them to repent.
The repentant ones were asked to eliminate the hardened ones who refused to show remorse, despite the fact their sin was obvious. They have rejected the living God who created them, saved and brought them out from Egypt, the land of slavery.
It was clear to Moses that worshipping idol has removed God’s protection and exposed their nakedness before their enemies. If they had continued in that state they would never get to the Promised Land. They would have perished in the wilderness. It was never the will of God that His chosen people, the Israelites, would die in the jungle in the course of their journey to the Promised Land.
Moses was on the Lord’s side and he demonstrated it in his deeds and actions. When God called him, according to Exodus 3:7-10, the Bible says: “And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people, which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows. 8: And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 9: Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.10: Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.”By this declaration, God directed him to go to Pharaoh the king of the kingdom to demand for the release of the people of God, the Israelites. He never cared what would happen to him, but was determined to accomplish the divine directive that supersedes his personal life on earth. In challenging Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, nothing happened to him because God was with him. If God is with you I am assuring you nobody will be against you, nothing will harm you, especially when you are doing exploits for God. If you are ready to do exploits for God in the evangelism and soul winning no enemy will be able to harm you.
Moses risked his life and secured the release of the Israelites from Egypt. In all his efforts God backed him up and he successfully secured their freedom from that house of bondage.
Joshua and Caleb were jointly on the camp of the Lord to save and prevent the Israelites from going back to Egypt. Numbers 14:6-9, says: “And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes. 7: And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, the land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land. 8: If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey. 9: Only rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the Lord is with us: fear them not.” This stance of the two yielded the needed results as they marched forward and eventually defeated the people and occupied the land. The Israelites are still living on that land till today.
Amid difficulties, oppositions and tribulation be on the side of God, even if you are the last man standing; never shift your ground because when God arises He will surely vindicate you. This is exactly the case with the Israelites. If they had adopted the majority report concerning the Promised Land and gone back to Egypt, they would have remained slaves forever, but the inclination to the report of Joshua and Caleb saved them.
David as a shepherd boy trusted God strongly believing to do exploit for his creator and for the benefit of the people of Israel. At the battle of Elah between Israelites and the Philistines, the Jews were fearfully discouraged because none of them could face Goliath. He was talking like a demi god, challenging them to come out, but the Israelites were hiding because of fear of the warlord. David, who was then not of age of recruitment into the army, butonly brought food for his elder brothers, arose and confronted Goliath because he knew his God; hence he was strong and capable of doing exploits for his God.
1Samuel 17:45-46, says: “Then said David to the Philistine, thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. 46: This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.”Although King Saul had earlier warned David not to go that Goliath had been a man of war from his youth, but David knew that God does not fail in any battle. He then used his shepherd sling and stone and killed Goliath. It is interesting to note that when the warlord fell, David ran to where he had fallen, he had no sword, so, he took Goliath’s sword to cut off Goliath’s head. This is a clear indication he went with the name of the Lord.
Today, I want you to make up your mind to be on the side of the creator and you will never regret it. However, for God to be with you, there must be some level of sacrifice in your service to God. You must be focused in things of God. You must be prepared to make sacrifices with firm determination to succeed where others have failed. You must not listen to people who are like Sanballat and Tobiah, the vision killers, to get you discouraged. You must be determined to succeed by overcoming every opposition on your way. God will surely arise on your side and prove to the distractors that with Him all things are possible. You will be glad that you stand for God in Jesus’ name.
