Christians have been advised to shun undue craving for material things, which has become the bane of society.

In a communiqué signed by the Bishop of the Diocese of Ijesa North Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. (Dr.) Isaac Oluyamo and the Diocesan Registrar, Adeleke Agbola, at the end of its first session of the third Synod with the theme: “Lay Up for Yourselves Treasures in Heaven,” the two clerics condemned the get-rich-quick syndrome of some Nigerians, advising them to focus on making heaven when they die.

The Synod reaffirmed its commitment to evangelism with a focus on preparing all parishioners for the second coming of Jesus Christ.

It admonished parishioners to give generously to God’s work, which includes their talents, treasure and time. It also berates the several attacks by Boko Haram sects and Fulani herdsmen even as it frowns at the lackadaisical attitude of the Federal Government in handling security and criminal cases.

The communiqué urged the government to be more proactive in protecting the lives and properties of Nigerians, while condemning the government’s plan to establish cattle colonies, stating that cattle rearing is strictly a private business and that the “operators should buy land and establish their ranches with their own money.”

The synod beseeched Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola to pay the full salaries of civil servants and pensioners before the expiration of his tenure.
