Ahead Strategies, a United Kingdom-based firm, has trained some final year students of Wesley University, Ondo, on different skills that would make them to be self employed after graduation.

Speaking on the theme of the two-day, ‘Graduate Employability,’ the lead consultant of the firm, Mr. Benjamin Taiwo, disclosed that many graduates in the labour market are unable to sustain their jobs after employment, because they lack the necessary skills and attitude to do so, adding that seven out of 10 employers say they employed the wrong people and will have to fire them within the first six months of being employed.

According to him, the training is aimed at helping the university students to stand out in the job market, apart from equipping them with attitude and skills that would enable them sustain their jobs.

“We concentrate much on paper certificates. Employers are sick and tired of very fantastic academic results, but zero industry experience. What we are teaching will ensure that they have paper certificates, get good jobs and keep them,” he said.

Taiwo disclosed that the central data of the organisation enables them to monitor the youths and provide necessary aids, mentorship, feedback mechanism; and most importantly, “allows employers to go into our website to look for candidates and match candidates with employers.”
