Mercy removes limitations; it gives us access to God’s help and love. The woman at the well, John 4 who had had five husbands, would have been condemned to death for living adulterous lifestyle, but mercy prevailed for her.
The Psalmist and Israel know how to get God by crying for His mercy. “Have mercy upon me, O Lord; consider my trouble, which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death,” Psalm 9:13.

• The proud cannot receive mercy because they feel big to cry or ask for it; such people depend on their might and rights. You must have a broken spirit and a contrite heart to receive mercy. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Psalm 51:17.

• Mercy is not for the strong. “Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed. My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O Lord, how long?” Psalm 6:2-3.

• Mercy is given to those who recognise God and His Lordship. “But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face,” Psalm 5:7-8.

• Mercy comes to those who know how to plead their case before God. “Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer,” Psalm 4:1.
• To those who trust in God. Psalm 52:8, Psalm 21:7 and Psalm 32:1.
• To those who acknowledged that they have fallen and pleaded to God. Psalm 31:7, 9.
• Men who remember that God have helped them in the past.
• Mercy comes to those who show mercy – Psalm 37:21
• He sends His mercy to those of a broken heart who seem helpless in the face of a strong enemy. Psalm57:3.
• To those who acknowledged that He is able by His mercy – Psam57:10.
• Those who wait upon God’s help – Psalm 59:9-10.
Men that do not show mercy suffers heavy causalities as mercy is not also shown to them (Psalm 109:1-22).

Israel has never failed to acknowledge God after He has shown them mercy. Whenever Israel goes wrong they cry for mercy and remember always His mercy is forever (Psalm 145:8) and God has never failed those who hope in His mercy. The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. Psalm 147:11

So, as we journey through 2022, let our confidence and trust be on His mercy. He is too faithful to fail; His words are Ye and Amen.
