Impressed by its competencies, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted permission to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, to run three additional courses at degree level in its Open and Distance Learning Centre (LODLC).

The Commission, in a letter signed by its Director, Open and Distance Education, Dr. Esther Olamide Adesina, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, listed the three new courses as: Accounting, Marketing and Nursing Science.

According to the document, which stipulated that the courses could run with effect from 2016/2017 academic session, it stated that approval is granted because the school has satisfied the requisite course materials and learner support facilities as recommended by the panel on pre-validation assessment, which visited the school on June 26 and 29, 2016.

The letter added that NUC after considering the report of the panel observed a number of issues, which included: that the University has full accreditation status for each of the proposed programmes on the face to face mode; that the institution’s ODL Centre has a credible infrastructure that is adequate for running of the three proposed programmes; that the curricula of the programmes approved for the centre were considered adequate and in line with the NUC approved BMAS; that there were adequate e-tutors and facilitators for the proposed programmes and that the Centre has produced over 75 per cent of the course materials in the mix-media format, among others.

It added that the proposed Nursing programme is mainly for registered Nurses who already have hospital experience and will commence at 200 level.
