Residents of Lokoja, the Kogi State capital have continued to groan under consistent power outage in most parts of the town.

For two weeks running, residents of the confluence state capital have continued to lament the blackout in most parts of the metropolis, a development, which the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), in charge of power distribution in the state is yet to offer any cogent reason.

Areas mostly affected include; Adankolo, Gadumo, old Poly Quarters, barracks, phase 1 and phase 2 housing Estates, 200 units Housing estate, 500units Housing estate and Aniebo Quarters, among others.

While some residents regretted that the perpetual power outage is having negative effect on their income, as patronage had become drastically reduced, others lament that have been spending a lot of money buying fuel to run their businesses and provide electricity in their homes.

According to a storeowner at Aniebo Quarters, Mrs. Mary Ajibola, “We can’t have light in our houses. Our businesses are dying. People are no longer coming around because they cannot get cold water or cold drinks any more. Yet, we continue to get exorbitant bills on monthly basis.”

Another resident in the Andankolo area of Lokoja, Samson Sule said they have resorted to buying fuel to power their generating sets every other night.

They therefore appealed to the AEDC to live up to its responsibilities, by restoring power to Lokoja and stop issuing bills for electricity they did not use.

A resident in Old Poly quarters, Mr. Usman Bello lamented that the Abuja Disco is just out to exploit them, as its bills remain constant despite the outages.

He said though he lives in a two-bedroom apartment with no major appliances, the AEDC keeps bringing N12, 000 as his monthly bill.
