Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.

Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell (James 3:5-6).

Indeed when any issue arises in life whether good or bad it is only made known to people by the tongue. The tongue by nature is the only part of our body that enables us to speak and express ourselves.

What is the Tongue?
THE Oxford Dictionaries defined the tongue as the fleshy muscular organ in the mouth of a mammal, used for tasting, licking, swallowing, and (in humans) articulating speech.

As humans we communicate with our tongue in all our dealings but the question is how do we articulate our speech?

Many have endangered themselves by saying things that they ought not to say.

God’s Word from the Scriptures made it clear thus: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Prov. 18:21).

When a word is spoken it has the capacity of bringing into existence that which is not visible to visibility.

This means that we are a product of what has been said by us either good or bad. Let us hear what Christ Jesus said: “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned” (Matthew 12:36-37).

When we hear this kind of words, what comes to mind is very simple whether you like or not you are accountable for the words that are coming out of you.

Some may say I just feel like talking or make a jest of things. Know that nothing just happen by chance but by ones imagination and taught.

Hear what the Scripture tells us: “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words” (Prov. 23:7-8).

It is high time we become conscious of ourselves that there is a creator Who owns our lives and takes record of all our speeches, which we will give account of.

The Scriptures counsels us to be very careful of what we do with our hearts, since that is the place of focus the enemy is targeting and once our hearts have been overtaken by the spirit of Satan every taught in our hearts become evil.

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil” (Prov. 4:23-27).

We are admonished as brethren to abide by the Word of God and allow same to be rooted in us as disciples of Christ Jesus. Right from the time of old the emphasis has been on God’s Word being embedded in the life of the believer.

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Joshua 1:8).

Jesus also reiterated by admonishing us saying: “Now ye are clean through the Word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you.

As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:3-5). So let us abide in the Word of God for our leading and direction.
