Youths launch program on grassroots development
A group of youths in Ondo State, Iyanu Asele Youth Volunteers has launched a platform for development at the grassroots level.
The Executive Director of the group, Mr. Adelosoye Maxwell, declared this in Akure, during the formal kick-off of the initiative, which cut across the 18 council areas and tertiary institution affiliates in the state.
He noted that the emergence of the platform wouldn’t have come at a better time, “considering the current challenges we face as a people, especially the youths who have suffered more than any other age group as a result of the terrible leadership that has beguiled us as a people.”
Iyanu Asele lamented the 2014 report credited to Special Adviser to the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); that 70 to 80 per cent of the 90 million Nigerian youths are either unemployed or under-employed.
“This initiative is about representation, we will lead the campaign for 50-50 representation at all levels of governance in the state. It is ridiculous that out of the estimated 170m population of this country, the youth constituency is about 80 to 100m, but we are the most under-represented, even in affairs directly concerning us,” he said.
