The Federal Government has started the training of inmates in prisons across Nigeria with each of the prisoners also being offered the sum of N500,000 as grant upon the completion of the exercise.

In Nigeria, the state of prisons is substandard, dangerous, and inhumane for inmates. In 2022, Premium Times reported that 20 inmates lost their lives due to pulmonary tuberculosis, which they contracted while imprisoned.
