The embarrassment of snakebite deaths

The reports by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that 174 snakebites per 100,000 population are reported per year in Nigeria and that the saw-scaled or carpet viper is responsible for 90 per cent of bites and 60 per cent of deaths is an embarrassment.

A health centre in Zamko, Langtang North Local Council of Plateau State at the weekend said it has recorded 1,500 cases of snakebites in the last 10 months.
