Build, Design and Display

The Vivobook Pro 14X OLED (N7400) has an amazing overall design aesthetic and feel. The lightweight nature of the chassis coupled with the matte-like aluminium build imparts a premium look to the device. The lid opens quite easily and the movement is very smooth. The redesigned Vivobook logo which is quite appealing on the lid’s back and the silver-grey scheme on the body and keyboard also look quite nice.

On both sides, the laptop has a bevy of ports for most connectivity needs. There is a USB 3.2 Type A and Type C port on the right along with a microSD card reader, an HDMI 1.4 port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.  The left side has two USB 2.0 Type-A ports and LED charging indicator lights. The laptop provides dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity wireless options.

Devoid of the usual LCD issues such as poor viewing angles and dull contrasts, the Vivobook Pro 14X has a 2.8K OLED panel which is a solid option for creators. ASUS’ claims of 133 percent sRGB coverage reflects in the display resonating with extremely life-like colours. The PANTONE Validation makes the Vivobook Pro 14X a useful tool for colour correction. 

The inky blacks on HDR videos watched on this screen contrasts well with the popping colours. The peak brightness levels are more than ample at 600nits, making it quite efficient in brightly lit environments. Also, the screen has a 90Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and browsing experience.

Keyboard and Trackpad

This device comes with the regular scissor-switch keys arranged in a six-row layout. The travel is acceptable and the typing experience is good. The power button has a silver accent around it and also a fingerprint reader integrated underneath it, while the escape key has a very distinguishable orange finish. There is three-stage backlighting available in a single white colour which makes night time usage easier. Below the keyboard is an exceptionally large trackpad with great haptic feedback and decent latency.

Performance and Battery Life

The Vivobook Pro 14X runs on the Intel 11th-gen i5-11300H chipset based on the Tiger Lake architecture. In terms of storage, the device gets a 1TB M.2 NVME PCIe SSD with read/write speeds of 3,558MB/s and 3,063MB/s, which are in the acceptable range. As for the memory, the 16GB DDR4 RAM is soldered to the motherboard and is non-upgradable. It has incredibly good and loud speakers present, with tuning done by Harman/Kardon. The speakers maintain lows and mids well while also giving depth to the music with substantial bass.

On the battery front, this device has 63Whr cell and can last for a significantly long time. Impressively, at power saver mode, the battery can take the laptop up to 11 hours provided the GPU will not stressed out.

The Vivobook Pro 14X is definitely a ‘Pro’ when it comes to the display and the amount of colour calibration in it. The quality, dynamic range and overall soothing tones of the Vivobook Pro 14X’s panel is exceptional. The battery life and how well Harman/Kardon has tuned the speakers are also quite respectable. Users with requirements that specifically target colour grading and other imaging and video-centric tasks performed by creators are definitely going to love this machine.
