Casio, School Kits introduce new software solution

To stem the perennial tide of failure in Math and Science subjects in Nigerian schools, Casio has partnered with School Kits to train teachers with new software solution that will aid their capabilities.

Business Development Manager, Middle East, Casio, Elie Karen, disclosed that an online resource software that would be used to train teachers in the country has been developed.

Speaking at a training workshop in Lagos recently, Karen said the software would be used to train 1,300 teachers within the next three years. He added that this is part of the organisation’s effort aimed at developing Math and Science education through capacity development.

Karen spoke on the success story of the training in other countries, ‘‘this training has taken place in six countries and is a global training to help educational entities in each country. For instance, Japan is a leading country in terms of teaching maths education.

This training has been developed by Japanese maths teachers along with local Nigerian math teachers that are really involved in the Nigerian as well as international curriculum.”He added that the program will focus on Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt adding that public and private schools would be involved. He noted that the program has been implemented across the globe and is now being launched in Nigeria.

According to him, great success stories have been recorded in Kenya where thousands of teachers have been trained.”In her speech, Managing Director School Kits Limited, Temilola Adepetun noted that this initiative is very commendable and will add to the transformation of the Educational Sector in Nigeria.

She added that School Kits was nominated as the Casio Authorized Distributor in Nigeria and is partnering with Casio to bring this educational capacity development program to Nigeria.

“It is indeed our hope that this training would add significant value to the knowledge share for the Teachers and by extension, students across Nigeria. School Kits Limited will remain a champion for initiatives geared towards empowering Nigerian teachers and students.

Hence, plans are underway to sign an agreement with local partners such as established educational institutions and teachers associations in Nigeria to firm up our commitment to achieve our objectives for capacity development.”

Adepetun stated further that ‘‘Casio seeks to support Nigerian teachers and students to enhance mathematics and science education through the provision of training, online resources and other CSR activities.

On how Casio intends to forestall the incidence of counterfeiting of Casio calculators, Karen said that has introduced a new design and model name. He added that the first model was introduced recently and it intends to the next model which holds the patent design, patent name and a serial number with the barcode to differentiate between the fake the genuine calculators.
