MTN appoints broadband officer, launches 2025 talent hunt

MTN Nigeria has appointed Egerton Idehen as Chief Broadband Officer (CBBO), effective April 2025.

Idehen joined MTN in 2002 as a Call Centre Agent and quickly advanced to Call Centre Manager. He has held various pivotal roles, including Customer Relationship Manager for the High-Value Segment, Regional Head and Senior Manager of Customer Care, Senior Manager of Consumer Billing, Credit, and Digital Support and General Manager of Customer Operations.

Through his expertise in scaling operational efficiency, Egerton expanded MTN’s service agent workforce from 1,000 to over 10,000 in just two years. This expansion ensured seamless support for over 70 million customers through the pioneering Service Everywhere initiative.

According to the telco, his tenure as High Value Segment Manager, increased MTN’s premium customer portfolio by three per cent, reduced churn by five per cent, and met call centre performance targets with 80 per cent service levels and 90 per cent answer rates, all while keeping agent attrition below four per cent4%.

On Idehen’s appointment, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, Dr Karl Toriola, said: “Our vision at MTN is to always prioritize our customers. Egerton has been instrumental in our customer-centric approach to service delivery. He is exceptionally qualified for the role as we aim to expand our fibre penetration in Nigeria, ensuring superior connectivity for our customers. I am confident that MTN will benefit immensely from his extensive experience, his proven track record in developing successful strategies, and his ability to drive business growth and create value.”

Egerton holds an MBA from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration from the University of Leicester, UK. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) in Spain.
Meanwhile, MTN will reignite the dreams of creativity with the launch of its Best of the Streets talent competition for the 2025 edition. This initiative aimed to discover and nurture Nigeria’s next generation of creative talent.

Slated to commence on May 1, 2025, the competition offers unsigned artists a transformative platform to compete for life-changing rewards, including a grand money prize, professional music video production, and an EP recording deal.

Chief Digital Officer of MTN Nigeria, A’isha Umar Mumuni, emphasised the initiative’s impact. “The premise of Best of the Streets is that there’s talent in every street in Nigeria, whether it’s acting, singing, dancing, comedy, or other performance arts.

Best of the Streets seeks to bring out that talent, to show Nigerian youths that there are opportunities everywhere; and at MTN, we are very proud to take part in creating these opportunities.”
