AFTER months of competing with contestants from Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania, Nigeria’s Shapeera Makepeace has emerged winner of the maiden karaoke competition, Tecno own the stage. The 29-year-old teacher from Benue State won the grand prize of $25,000, a recording deal and a brand new TECNO Phantom 5 at the grand finale held in Lagos over the weekend.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Marketing Managing, Tecno Mobile, Attah Oguchie said the motive behind the competition is to promote African talents. Africa is a talented continent, which gives in to opportunities like this.
“What Tecno is doing basically is to support young talents, we don’t want to talk to the stars; we want to bring people who are nobody and make them instant millionaires.

On continuity of the quest he said, this is just the beginning, which is one of many things we are doing and it is going to be an annual event. Speaking on the partnership with Tecno, Head, Public Relations and Talent, M-Net/Africa Magic, MultiChoice, Efosa Aiyevbomwan, said it is two likeminded organisations. The main mission of African Magic is investing in the African entertainment industry particularly Nigeria. So part of our investment story is building talent and it is from that talent that we get our content.

“Tecno own the stage is one of those platforms where we invest in young talents, encourage talents, thereby also creating content for our channels. It is something that we do and have always done all over the years.
