Peter Maurer, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has called on the Nigerian government and the masses to save Hauwa Mohammed Liman, a 24-year-old Nigerian midwife from execution.

The president in a letter pleaded with the ISWAP (Islamic State’s West African province group) to spare Hauwa, a medical worker at a hospital in partnership with ICRC and UNICEF.

According to the letter, she and two other colleagues, Alice and Saifura Hussaini Ahmed Khorsa were abducted in March. Unfortunately, Saifura Hussaini Ahmed Khorsa was executed in September.

“Hauwa and Alice are medical workers who chose to work and help vulnerable communities in Rann, an area heavily affected by violence”

“The town’s population has more than doubled because of the conflict, while most local health-care staff have fled. These women were providing essential and life-saving services to thousands of people, displaced and resident alike. All they sought to do was to help,” Mamadou Sow, the head of ICRC’s Operations in the Lake Chad Basin wrote.
