Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Prof. James Momoh, has confirmed the commitment of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to bridge the metering gap in its jurisdiction over the next three years.

Momoh, who spoke at the commissioning of Customers Complaints Forum office in Lokoja yesterday, said the metering gap currently in the Abuja Disco stands at 440,000 of its total size of over a million customers which is 40 per cent deficit in metering.

According to him: “It is however gratifying to note that the Abuja Disco has commenced the procurement of Meter Asset Provider S, combined with the implementation of their meter roll-out plan in accordance with the performance agreement signed with the government under the privatisation programme monitored by the commission.

“This will inject an average of about 150,000 meters into the Abuja Disco network annually over the next five years.”

However, he said the present metering gap would be closed within the next three years using the MAP regulation and their meter roll-out plan.
