New Rotary District Governor sees end to polio in Nigeria

The new District Governor, Rotary International District 9110, Rotn. Kola Sodipo, has vowed to sustain the present status of zero report of polio virus in Nigeria until the country is totally free and declared polio non-endemic nation. He said this during his installation ceremony, which took place at Muson Centre, Lagos.

“Rotary has been at the forefront of the campaign for polio eradication in Nigeria and the world over the years. We have invested over $4 billion. This year, we want to collaborate with the National Polio Plus Committee to ensure that there is no more case of polio in Nigeria,” he said.

Sodipo added that in the area of health, the district would fully equip identified Primary Health Centres within the district, covering Lagos and Ogun states towards ensuring that institutions provide the much needed healthcare delivery in the various communities they serve. He said the Intercontinental Free Surgical Mission, in various medical specialties, in conjunction with Rotarians and specialists from Districts in India and United States of America will continue to benefit the people.

The immediate past District Governor, Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo, said his administration was able to impact on the less privileged in the six Rotary areas of focus, which included building a Rotary Vocational Centre in Igbogbo, Ikorodu. He added that the incoming administration would build on his achievement and do better.
