The House of Representatives has mandated its committees on Public Procurement and Niger Delta to investigate over N400 billion allegedly expended by the Presidential Amnesty Programme through fictitious contract awards.

The chamber, yesterday at plenary, also ordered the panels to probe the alleged violation of the Public Procurement Act, abuses of the scheme and report back to parliament within weeks for further legislative action.

The resolution was sequel to the adoption of a motion by Solomon Bulus Maren where he expressed concern over the frustration and abandonment of the beneficiaries of the programme who, he stressed, had been short-changed and sidelined by the non-payment of allocated funds for their welfare.
