The Police yesterday averted what would have been a bloody clash between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling All Prof Congress (APC) in Benin.

PDP supporters had mobilised to Benin airport to support the motion of impeachment moved by the Senator representing Edo South, Matthew Uroghide, against President Muhammadu Buhari. But the APC supporters also mobilised to counter Pro PDP supporters.

Tension heightened when both sides started singing war songs against each other while waiting for the flight that conveyed the state governor, Godwin Obaseki and the senator from Abuja.

Armed with placard of various inscriptions, the APC labelled the senator a failure while his supporters heap praises on him.

The issue got worsened when the two side came face-to-face and started calling each party names.

But for the intervention of the State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, calm was restored to both camps.
