Arrests Tompolo’s lawyer, Adegboruwa, PDP aspirant, council chief

A former Aviation minister and spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO), Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, may remain beyond today at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the procurement of a remand warrant by the anti-graft agency to keep him for further questioning.

The EFCC yesterday searched his Abuja home. He has been with the EFCC since he reported there on Monday.

A prominent Lagos-based lawyer and rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, was also arrested yesterday at his Lekki office by EFCC which accused him of obtaining money under false pretence popularly called ‘419’ by renting out a forfeited asset without due authorization.

Adegboruwa, a vocal critic of the Nigerian government is also a lawyer to the wanted Niger Delta militant, Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo).

The lawyer allegedly conspired with some other persons to lease a property which is a subject of an Interim Forfeiture Order by a Lagos State High Court,
to one Shelf Drilling Nigeria Limited for N61, 631,944.65.

The said money was allegedly credited to his bank account, from where he allegedly disbursed it to others including churches.

An EFCC source said Adegboruwa would be charged to court as soon as possible.

A very prominent governorship aspirant of the PDP was also invited yesterday by the EFCC over allegations of bribing of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials during the 2015 general elections.

A source at the EFCC office in Port Harcourt confirmed that the aspirant was still there last night.

The EFCC also yesterday arrested the outgoing Chairman of Kuje Local Government Area, Abuja, Tete Ishaku Shaban, for allegedly defrauding a company, Trade Executive Network Limited owned by the petitioner, Najumudeen Gidado, of the sum of N17.5 million.

The offence was allegedly committed in 2014, when the company, bidded for the reconstruction and modernization of Kuje Main Market in Abuja.
