Unidentified gunmen again, at the weekend, attacked a divisional police station in Udung Uko Council of Akwa Ibom State and injured three police officers on duty.

It was learnt that the hoodlums stormed the police station in Toyota Sienna vehicle and opened fire on the officers.

An eyewitness told The Guardian in Uyo that three of the officers sustained serious injuries from gunshots in an attempt to repel the attack.

“Unknown gunmen shot sporadically at the Udung Uko police divisional headquarters. The gallant police officers on duty tried to repel the attack, but three policemen sustained serious degrees of injuries from the attack,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko Macdon, said no life was lost to the invasion.

He said that the hoodlums came into the police station in a Toyota Sienna car and opened fire, but, however, commended the officers for their vigilance in repelling the attack.

“They made an attempt on our facility at Udung Uko Council of Akwa Ibom State, but our men repelled the attack. There was no casualty. The vigilance of our men on duty led to foiling of the attack. The place has been fortified and investigation is ongoing,” he said.
