Gunmen sets gov’s council headquarters ablaze

The Anambra State House of Assembly, yesterday, confirmed all the 20 commissioner nominees for the state Executive Council submitted by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, last week.

The Speaker, Mr. Uche Okafor, explained that the nominees were confirmed through a voice vote conducted during plenary.

He said Dr. Afam Obidike was confirmed as Commissioner for Ministry of Health, Mr. Patrick Aghamba (Youth Development), Mrs. Ifeyinwa Obinabo (Women Affairs and Social Welfare) and Dr. Obinna Ngonadi (Commerce and Industry), among others.

The Speaker, who announced that the commissioners would be sworn in tomorrow, charged them to live up to expectations and discharge their duties effectively.

ALSO yesterday, gunmen attacked Aguata Local Council headquarters, where the governor hails from.

It was learnt that the secretariat was set ablaze.

Spokesman for the state Police Command, Ikenga Tochukwu, said officers had been deployed in the area.
