Five suspects have been arrested by Yobe State Police Command for kidnapping. The arrests were made in the suspects’ hideouts in Fika, Potiskum and Gujba Local Councils.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dungus Abdulkarim, who disclosed this yesterday in Damaturu, said four other members of the kidnap syndicate are however at large.
He said that the police are trailing the fleeing suspects with a view to arresting and eventual prosecuting them for kidnapping and other crimes.
According to him, the arrests is in continuation of police efforts to ensure security and public safety.
“We’ll continue with the massive clamp down on hoodlums’ hideouts in Fika, Potiskum, Gujba and Gulani Councils,” he said.
He added that Idi Isa, 56, of Karem village in Fika council was rescued, after being kidnapped on March 31, 2022.
Besides, he added: “Based on credible information, detectives from Fika Divisional Headquarters on April 17, 2022 mobilised to a hideout of kidnappers in Nafada council, Gombe State where the suspects were trailed to an isolated house.
“The suspects used the house for the safe keeping of kidnapped victims, before ransoms are paid by their family members.”
He said that all the suspects confessed to the crime in addition to other crimes committed in various parts of Yobe and Gombe states.
The State Police Commissioner, Haruna Garba, urged the people to continue with their support by providing credible information in the fight against crimes.
