Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Plateau, Prof. Danladi Atu, has said that the Monday and Tuesday public holidays declared by Governor Simon Lalong still stand.
The clarification became necessary as some people felt the pronouncement has been overtaken by the declaration of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that voter registration exercise would continue after the initial deadline of June 30, 2022.
Lalong had, on Wednesday, declared Monday, June 27 and Tuesday, June 28, 2022 as public holidays. Atu said the governor’s decision was to enable citizens of the state turn out en masse for the ongoing voter registration exercise.
He added that the governor, therefore, enjoined the citizens, especially workers, to seize the opportunity to prepare for the 2023 general elections.
Meanwhile, the former Speaker, House of Assembly, Abok Ayuba, has congratulated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship running mate, Mrs. Josephine Piyo, on the lofty partnership.
According to Ayuba, as a dedicated pioneer party woman and in recognition of the loyalty and humility women exhibited in the state, Caleb Mutfwang’s choice of Piyo as his running mate is in order.
He added the choice of Piyo rightly honoured the essential role women played in shaping Plateau politics and in the fight for balance in the society.
The former Speaker further stressed that a woman deputy governor in Plateau “is nothing short of momentum which will create a unifying link the state urgently needs to grow because where our mothers progress, the youth succeed.”
