Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has cautioned Arewa voters against casting their ballots along religious, tribal and political affiliations during the 2023 general elections.

It observed that hunger was stalking millions of northern communities, with inflation worsening lives on a daily basis, besides people losing jobs and businesses closing down amid decaying infrastructure.

The group, in a communiqué issued by its spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, at the end of a two-day retreat, charged Northerners to ask those seeking their votes to provide comprehensive programmes for the development of the region and promotion of their interest.

It demanded an immediate, transparent and comprehensive investigation into prevalent “Defence corruption running into trillions of naira.”

The document advises: “Demand urgent government explanation on what is inhibiting the ability of Nigerian armed forces to effectively tackle the insurgent threat in the North East, banditry and kidnappings in the North West as well as response to the secessionist violence in the South East, oil bunkering in the Niger Delta, conflicts in the North Central and threat of maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.”
