It said that any other contender was “a pretender to the throne and self-serving.”
The group, in a statement by its National Chairman, Abiodun Fanoro and General Secretary, Tunde Aiyenumelo, said that Akeredolu by reason of his election as governor and his election by his governor-colleagues had become the authentic spokesperson for the region and the Yoruba.
The group, which made reference to the summit of 121 Yoruba socio-cultural groups that met in Lagos last week where in their resolutions they distanced the Yoruba from the adoption of Obi by Chief Adebanjo, said: “If Pa Adebanjo has not realised that he is undoubtedly on a solo and self-serving voyage in Ohanifere, he should endeavour to find out the robust resolutions of the over 121 Yoruba groups, including those in Kwara and Kogi states, which vehemently condemned the alleged adoption of Obi and further distanced the Yoruba from the gimmick. This is enough for Pa Adebanjo to know the futility and barrenness of his voyage with Obi.”
“We charge Adebanjo and Ebiseni to go to their respective towns and lead a pro-Obi campaign and see if they would not be stoned, but may only be spared because of Yoruba culture of respect for elders, which they should stop abusing.”
