The call was made at the weekend, during the YMCA International Day of Older Persons 2022, with the theme: “The Resilience and Contributions of Older Persons.”
A medical practitioner, Dr. Adefemi Adedugbe, who was the guest speaker, stressed that more attention is being given to the youth than the elderly in society.
He said accessing good healthcare for the elderly is not easy and cheap, noting that the healthcare services for the elderly in the private sector are quite expensive.
According to him, there is no point in bringing health insurance that will not take care of the people the healthcare services are meant for.
He, therefore, urged the elderly to live healthily to prevent developing chronic illnesses.
Vice Chairman, YMCA, Taiye Taiwo, said everyone has the responsibility to care for the elderly around them and not neglect them.
Also, Chief Executive Officer/General Secretary of the association, Adeniyi Akindayomi, said the association had been passionate about celebrating senior citizens in the country.
