In a groundbreaking initiative to bridge the information gap and empower vulnerable communities in low- and middle-income countries, SimbiHealth, an innovative new artificial intelligence (AI) app, is revolutionizing access to mental and sexual health information. Aliyu Oladimeji Olateju, the lead developer and Chief Technology Officer at SRHIN (Sexual and Reproductive Health Initiative Network), having identified a critical access gap in sexual and mental health information in low-and middle-income countries in Africa, developed the application with a solid focus on the most vulnerable populations, including women, people in internally displaced camps, and children. SimbiHealth is set to transform the landscape of healthcare in underserved regions.
This innovation addresses a critical need for comprehensive and reliable information on mental and sexual health, which is often scarce in resource-constrained settings like Nigeria and other low-middle-income countries in Africa. Leveraging the power of AI technology, the app provides a user-friendly platform that delivers accurate and culturally sensitive information while respecting privacy and confidentiality.
It covers various topics, including mental well-being, reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and family planning. The content is available in multiple languages and is constantly updated by a team of healthcare professionals and experts, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
Aliyu emphasized the vital role of technology in addressing healthcare disparities. He stated, ‘At SRHIN, we firmly believe that every individual, regardless of their background or location, should have access to accurate and reliable health information. SimbiHealth reflects our unwavering commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable individuals and communities through innovative technology solutions.’
Aliyu further revealed that SimbiHealth is taking a crucial step towards improving the overall well-being of these communities by soon releasing an encompassing mental and sexual health curriculum, an exciting new feature designed to empower and educate survivors of gender violence and terrorism.
SimbiHealth is currently available on Apple and Play Store.
