African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) commenced the construction of its African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) project in Abuja, Nigeria. It will provide excellent healthcare to both low and high-income patient groups across the continent. The AMCE in Partnership with King’s College Hospital London will be located in Abuja, which is a hub for travel in Nigeria and West Africa, enabling it to attract patients across the region. The Centre will be starting with a 170-bed specialist hospital before expanding to a 500-bed facility.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a well-versed director to take the lead on all areas that concern estates and facilities across the project, whilst ensuring that the needs and objectives of the project are met.
- Must be a strong character that has extensive proven experience of overseeing the estates and facilities operation from the planning stage, all the way through to the implementation and maintenance.
- Will be expected to be experienced in effective leadership and management on all matters that concern the estates and facilities aspect of the project such as, but not limited to health and safety regulations, any potential environmental matters etc.
- Have proven experience working in a complex project.
- Have proven experience managing organisational issues and identifying any potential risk to strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The post holder will be at the forefront of the Estates and Facilities team and be responsible for any outstanding issues related to current estates and facilities function of the project.
- Provide clear and concise leadership for the estates team to ensure that all facilities are outstanding environments that are safe for the use of staff so they are able to ensure the high quality delivery of services to patients and external visitors.
- Ensure correct governance arrangements, which include the management of finance and regulatory activity where appropriate.
- Be responsible for the distribution of resources and budgets that have been allocated to estates and facilities.
- To ensure that the hospital has a clear and effective emergency response process with clear guidelines on how this is executed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or equivalent in relevant experience (Project / Estate / Facility management).
- Proven experience of managing estates and facilities department within the healthcare sector.
- Provide evidence of successfully implementing estates and facilities strategy with an allocated budget / resources.

Job Summary

The post holder will be responsible for the initial plan and implementation of Estates and Facilities services in a timely manner, whilst maintaining a high quality of service making sure that they adhere to all safety regulations.
The Director of Estates and Facilities will need to ensure that once new facilities are installed, there is a continuous maintenance and a clear path to improvement implemented. This will include making sure that regular checks are being made, with a smooth operating function of all facilities for the use of patients, staff and visitors.
This role requires the post holder to be a strong character that has extensive proven experience of overseeing a large Estates and Facilities operation from the planning stage, all the way through to the implementation. In addition, the post holder will be expected to provide effective leadership and management on all matters that concern the Estates and Facilities aspect of the project. Key Responsibilities
Leadership:
- To be accountable for the delivery of key performance indicators relating to the Estates and Facilities aspect of the project, whilst striving for continuous improvement.
- To lead the Department by displaying resilience whilst designing and building a safe environment for all organisation’s members
- You will be at the forefront of the Estates and Facilities team and be responsible for any outstanding issues related to current estates and facilities function of the project.
Strategic Development
- Responsible for leading the strategic and operational planning of the Estates and Facilities function of the project.
- Provide clear and concise leadership for the Estates team to ensure that all facilities are outstanding environments, which are safe for the use of staff to the highest quality delivery of services to patients and external visitors.
- To take the role as the strategic lead for the project delivery of the Estates and Facilities department. This includes working with board members and managers to propose current and future requirementsthrough detailedbusiness appraisals for approval by the executives.
- Responsible for delivering excellent patient focused facilities, which take into account any staff and any feedback from staff and patients.
Governance
- Ensure correct governances arrangements, which include the management of finance and regulatory activity where appropriate.
- Making sure that all Estates and facilities functions comply with the governance standards.
- Ensuring that all estates and facilities processes follow the correct guidelines from a governance standpoint.
