Popoola Olukayode Johnson

Amid ongoing crisis rocking the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with the reported suspension of its national leader and presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the governorship candidate of the party in Oyo State, Engr. Popoola Olukayode Johnson, popularly known as POJ, has jetted out of the country to the United States amid speculations about his next line of action.

The former Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State and retired Director of Highways at the Federal Ministry of Works, who has since the March 18 governorship elections went underground is believed to be keeping his cards close to his chest on his next move.

Sources close to the politician disclosed at the weekend that during his ongoing holiday in the U.S. he recently hosted a top official of the President Bola Tinubu administration as part of his wide consultations across board and political divides.

The source said: “It is true he has been receiving overtures from leading political parties due to his pedigree as a former party leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, his next political move has not been decided yet even though he hosted a top Aso Villa official in his U.S. home. Things will crystalise and take shape as soon as he returns home.”

He is expected back in the country in the coming weeks to take active part in the grassroots politics ahead of local government elections holding in Oyo in April next year.
