Unions fault plans to remove FRIN DG Yaduma 

Union leaders at the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), Ibadan, have warned against the removal of the Director General of the institute, Ibadan, Zacharia Buba Yaduma, and passed a vote of confidence in his administration.

The groups, comprising Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Senior Staff Association (SSA) of Federal College of Forestry, and Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI), at the joint congress of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of FRIN and Colleges, said Yaduma, who assumed the position on April 1, this year, prioritised workers’ welfare.

The union leaders maintained that the forces bent on removing the DG are labouring in vain, as the scholar has continuously placed premium on the well-being, advancement and conversion of all categories of workers since he came on board, which is a marked departure from past experiences.

Olubunmi Adetona, who is the NASU Chairperson, said: “We have some people at the maintenance and estate sections, whose promotions had been pegged, but that has become history since Yaduma came on board.

“They have been promoted, and can even move to the level of directorship.  Before now, they could not move. He did that for us immediately he came on board.
“He also gave drivers the opportunity to travel with him, which has never happened in the history of FRIN. He has been traveling with heads of departments with their allowances fully paid.”

Workers are happy with him; the atmosphere is peaceful, but some hawks want him out.”
Chairman, SSA, Oluseyi Adejimi, said the DG is doing well and should be supported by all.
