Word Mental Health Day which is celebrated every 10th day of October, is a day to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters. It is also a day to let people know that it is okay to ask for help, no matter what you are going through.
The theme of World Mental Health Day for 2023 is ‘mental health is a universal human right’.
SignalADoc, a Health Tech Company in a statement released by the management, said, “We are dedicated to addressing the inequalities in mental health and working towards good mental health for each and every one. This year’s event represents a global commitment to raise awareness of mental health and advocate for it as a universal human right,” the statement reads.
SignalADoc says that everyone should have the right to live a life with dignity, equity, equality, and respect, and this includes people with mental health conditions. Yet, in Africa and in Nigeria, stigma, discrimination and human rights violations continue to persist.
“In Nigeria, people with mental health conditions do not have access to quality services, they are subjected to coercive practices, inhumane treatment, and in some cases abuse – even in healthcare settings, where they should be protected.
“The CEO of SignalADoc, Osagie Omokaro joins all relevant stakeholders in Nigeria in advocating & promoting regulatory and other initiatives to support mental health as a fundamental human right, while at the same time limiting practices that favor human rights violations.
