It was all glamour at the 26th Founder’s Day thanksgiving service and prize-giving ceremony of Dowen College Lagos where many students clinched awards and 46 scholarship recipients got decorated by prominent figures, including the Bishops of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Revd. Ifedola Okupevi, Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos; the Rt. Revd. Dr. Kames Olusola Odedeji, Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West; and the Rt. Revd. B. C. Akinpelu Johnson, Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos Mainland.
The School’s Choir and Orchestra were impressive in their renditions and performances even as the founder of the institution, Dr. Olumide O. Phillips, along with his wife, Dr. Toyin Phillips were joined by parents of students and dignitaries from all walks of life.
The school was joined by the MBHS5963—old boys of the Methodist Boys High School who were also celebrating 60 years of leaving their school, to give thanks to God.
Dowen College and her students have also received many awards recently, among them the British Council International School Award 2022-2025 and the Safe Schools Lagos (SSLAG) Beacon of Safety Award in September 2023.
Also, in attendance were members of the Advisory Council, Board of Governors, Patrons and Patronesses of the school, among whom are Lady Maiden Ibru, OFR, Professor Mrs. Oladunjoye, a former commissioner of education in Lagos State, and Prof. Toyin Ashiru, the Pro-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University and a member of the DCL Advisory Council.
