Seun Oluyemi wins TV Producer of the Year at NBMA

Seun Oluyemi

Television and media producer, Seun Anthony Oluyemi, has emerged TV Producer of the Year at the 2026 Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards (NBMA), in recognition of his contributions to television production and his longstanding role in shaping Rubbin’ Minds, the youth-focused talk show on Channels Television.

The programme also won Best Long-Running TV Programme of the Year, while securing nominations for Talk Show of the Year and Entertainment Show of the Year, reinforcing its place as one of Nigeria’s enduring platforms for youth engagement and national conversations.

The recognition marks a significant milestone in Oluyemi’s nearly 14-year journey producing Rubbin’ Minds, a programme that has consistently provided a platform for discussions on politics, governance, entertainment, culture, entrepreneurship and other issues affecting young Nigerians.

With almost 19 years of professional experience spanning television, documentaries, events and media production, Oluyemi has developed expertise in content creation, editorial coordination and broadcast production, contributing to the growth of contemporary Nigerian television.

Reflecting on his career, Oluyemi recalled his early experiences transitioning into live television production, noting that the journey required him to develop technical skills, embrace new responsibilities and navigate the pressures associated with delivering live broadcasts.

According to him, his entry into television production was driven more by determination and a willingness to learn than by formal technical training.

“Looking back, I had no fancy training. I walked into the job and met the MCR, Tricaster and mixers for the first time. All I had was a willingness to learn. Today, after years of lessons, wins, challenging shows and several nominations, winning TV Producer of the Year feels like a beautiful full circle moment,” he said.

He explained that the experience taught him the importance of adaptability, continuous professional development and teamwork in an industry where changing technology and audience expectations demand constant innovation.

Oluyemi also acknowledged the contributions of the programme’s host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, other presenters who have worked on the show over the years, and associate producers whose creativity, professionalism and dedication have contributed to its success.

He noted that sustaining a live television programme requires more than presenting engaging conversations, as considerable effort goes into research, editorial planning, technical coordination, guest management and ensuring that each episode meets broadcast standards.

Over the years, Rubbin’ Minds has created opportunities for young people, policymakers, entertainers, entrepreneurs and other public figures to engage in conversations around national development, social issues and popular culture.

Its continued presence on television has also demonstrated the relevance of programmes that encourage young Nigerians to participate in public discourse while providing a platform for diverse perspectives.

The programme’s recognition as Best Long-Running TV Programme of the Year highlights the importance of consistency and sustained audience engagement in an increasingly competitive media environment, where digital platforms and changing viewing habits continue to reshape television consumption.

For Oluyemi, the award represents both personal accomplishment and recognition of the collective commitment required to maintain the programme’s relevance for nearly a decade and a half.

The honours further underscore the contributions of producers and other behind-the-scenes professionals whose work is essential to content development, technical execution and the overall success of television programming.

Together, the awards celebrate Oluyemi’s professional journey and the collaborative efforts of the Rubbin’ Minds production team, while drawing attention to the value of creativity, resilience and continuous learning in Nigeria’s evolving broadcasting industry.
